AST Plastics get low cost power with a Helec CHP package

Summer 2023 saw the Helec team supply & install a twin engined CHP package to AST Plastics, Wrexham.
AST, a manufacturer of high quality plastic containers has engaged in a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) contract with Orezten to procure its site power requirements at an agreed electrical price which is discounted against the gas grid cost to ensure it is financially beneficial to AST.

Our project team assessed the site needs with the Orezten team and the outcome was the installation of a twin engined CHP package built by CHP partner Gentec enables site power generation to be controlled from as low as 75kWe up through to 590kWe at 100% output.
The hot water produced is directed to thermal stores in the factory shop floor which deliver hot water for the container sterilysing & rinsing process.

Having CHP cogeneration onsite also compliments the recently installed PV array sited on the factory roof which further assists in reducing the companies carbon footprint.
