CHP & 48 sq m Solar Thermal Collectors
Watergate Bay Hotel is a prestigious A rated establishment near Newquay in Cornwall. The hotel has over 70 bedrooms along with a swimming pool, hot tub, spa and restaurants including Jamie Olivers restaurant 15.

Challenge
The hotel previously had 2 boiler rooms and was always at risk of running out of hot water at peak times.
Using the opportunity of accessing European funding the client wished to address the peak demand hot water issues, as well as reducing the buildings carbon footprint and energy bills.
Solution and Outcome
Centralising the heating system simplified the system and improved efficiency by 20%.
- 2 x 30kWe Energimizer CHP
- 2 x 1250 litre 2WR “TiSun Proclean” hot water cylinders
- 48m2 Tissan solar thermal collectors sited in the hotel car park area
- 10,000 litres stored water.
The hotel is hydraulically connected to both plantrooms, the Proclean pre heats the water going into the calorifiers. This solution has been installed for over a year and has exceeded site expectations.
The load on the 2 plantrooms has been significantly reduced to the point where the larger plantroom only requires 120kW of capacity & the smaller plantroom requires 60kW and it is planned to reduce/remove the 2nd plantroom in the future.
